Sleep Better with CBD

Seven to nine hours of uninterrupted sleep is recommended each night as a full night’s sleep is essential to the overall health and wellbeing of humans. Getting the right amount of sleep ensures both rest and recouping enough energy for the coming day. The process of sleep contributes to the growth and repair of muscle and tissue, memory formation as well as fortifying the immune system to stave off any type of illness.

According to studies, as many as 70% of Americans are not sleeping the recommended hours. Not only does inadequate sleep lead to trouble concentrating during the day and negative impacts on mood, habitual insomniacs are also five times more likely to suffer from anxiety or depression. They also carry double the risk of heart failure.

Full-spectrum CBD can be a solid and beneficial alternative to traditional sleep medications and treatments. Research has shown that CBD can improve sleep while also reducing anxiety, CBD’s benefit is in its ability to help patients remain sleeping – as opposed to just helping them fall asleep in the first place. The subjects involved in the study were each given 25mg of CBD before bed. Sleep improved for 66.7 percent of participants within the first month of CBD use.

CBD is a cannabinoid that does not contain THC or psychoactive properties. Therefore, CBD also does not lead to any potential dependence or abuse because it interacts indirectly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the human endocannabinoid system, research has shown it to aid in pain reduction, inflammation, reduction in anxiety, and, therefore, sleep.

A 2018 study found that “Consumption of medical Cannabis flower (CBD) is associated with significant improvements in perceived insomnia.”

Additionally, a Case Report from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Fort Collins studied the effect of CBD on a young patient with anxiety. The results of the study showed that CBD supplements at bedtime, combined with 6 mg to 12 mg of CBD sublingual spray during the daytime, resulted in a gradual increase in sleep quality and quantity and a decrease in anxiety. After 5 months, the patient was able to sleep on their own. There were also no side effects reported from taking the CBD oil.

Personal body chemistry, weight, and the nature of the sleep issue determines how CBD will work in each person. Most clinical trials have involved doses between 25 to 1,500 mg. Higher, more potent doses are usually used for treating sleep disorders.

CBD comes as an oral solution, sprays, oils or tincture, vape products, or edibles including: gummies, pills or capsules. Topical solutions and patches are also available, while some choose to smoke CBD flower directly.

Some CBD sleep products use cannabinol (CBN) – another cannabinoid. Derived from THC, it’s known for carrying over the sedative effect of THC without the associated high. CBN has been shown to be more effective when combined with other cannabinoids.

CBD for insomnia and other sleep disorders is well tolerated. Indian Creek prides themselves on the ability to go to great lengths in order to ensure their products meet ASTM industry standards for quality, consistency, and transparency.
