Frequently Asked Questions – IndianCreekCBD.com

Is CBD Oil Legal in My State?

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in consultation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the legal limit for THC, the psychoactive chemical in cannabis, found in any product cannot exceed 0.3 percent. In the

Statement of Principles on Industrial Hemp, federal law lays out guidelines for industrial hemp that is grown and cultivated in accordance with Section 7606 of the Agricultural Act of 2014.

The document states “The term ‘industrial hemp’ includes the plant Cannabis sativa L. and any part or derivative of such plant, including seeds of such plant, whether growing or not, that is used exclusively for industrial purposes (fiber and seed) with a tetrahydrocannabinols concentration (THC) of not more than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis.

CBD Oil containing at or less than 0.3 percent of THC is legal in every state.

What is the difference in CBD Oil?

There are also various types of CBD. Full-spectrum is the most preferred, seeing as it retains all cannabinoids and terpenes. There are generally three different types of CBD oil.

Full-spectrum CBD oil which, again, contains all the compounds of a cannabis plant, including a very low level of THC.

Broad-spectrum CBD oil which contains several compounds of the plant but no THC

CBD isolate which only contains CBD and is often found in crystal or powder form.

Consumers should always check the Certificate of Analysis (COA) of CBD oil products. Checking the COA is the only way to get a full picture of what is exactly in a CBD oil product.

What is an Endocannabinoid System?

The human endocannabinoid system (ECS) helps to modulate certain physiological processes in the body. It is the system in the body that regulates homeostasis. It’s a cell-signaling system identified by researchers in the 1990s who were trying to understand the effects of THC. The ECS plays a role in a range of functions including: Mood, stress, sleep, appetite, memory and even pain sensation in the human body.

The ECS involves three core components: endocannabinoids, receptors, and enzymes. The ECS communicates through compounds known as endocannabinoids that exist naturally in the body. These messengers – or neurotransmitters – are produced naturally. Though CBD is plant-based, it is chemically similar to endocannabinoids and therefore can interact with these receptors.

The two main endocannabinoids are anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG)

Meanwhile, the two main endocannabinoid receptors are the CB1 receptors, which are mostly found in the central nervous system and the CB2 receptors, which are found in the peripheral nervous system. Endocannabinoids are able to bind to either receptor.

As an example, endocannabinoids may target CB1 receptors in a spinal nerve to relieve pain or target a CB2 receptor in the immune system to signal inflammation.

How does CBD work?

Research shows that CBD interacts with the human ECS , targeting receptors in the endocannabinoids. Though still attempting to prove the exact mechanisms, researchers suggest CBD affects the body in several ways. Some of these include:

Inhibiting endocannabinoid reuptake

Regulating pain and pain sensation by activating the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 and g-coupled receptor 55

Increasing the activity of serotonin receptors

Full-spectrum CBD which contains beta-caryophyllene is able to bind to the CB2 receptors as well.

By binding with the receptors in the ECS, CBD may help with pain, anxiety,  mood or even sleep and appetite issues.
